VAZHAI THANDU PORIYAL(PLANTAIN STEM PORIYAL)




INGREDIENTS

Plantain stem – 1 piece
Uradh dhal – ½ tsp
Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
Red chillies – 2
Curry leaves – 5 to 6
Moong dhal – 2 tsp
Curd – 3 tsp
Coconut scrapped – 3 tsp
Oil – 2 tsp
Salt to taste


METHOD

Mix the curd in a bowl of water.
Cut the plantain stem into small pieces and soak them in the above curd water (this avoids the blackening on the pieces)
Heat pan and add oil
Add mustard seeds and uradh dal.
When the mustard splutters, add curry leaves and red chillies cut into pieces
Now add the plantain stem, salt, moong dal and sauté.
Sprinkle a little water and close the pan with a lid.
Cook the plantain stem for 5 to 10 mins in low fire or till it is cooked.
Now add the coconut and remove from fire.

SERVING TIPS

The above dish goes well with sambar and kara kuzhambu
