PAL VAZHAIKAI KUZHAMBU (PLANTAIN CURRY)



INGREDIENTS

Plantain – 1
Pepper – 1tsp
Jeera – 1tsp
Uradh dhal – 1tsp
Red chillies – 3 to 4
Coconut – ½ a coconut
Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
Salt to taste
Oil – 2 tsp
Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
Uradh dhal – ½ tsp
Curry leaves – 10 leaves
Thalipu vadam if u have (only some people use this, so this is optional) – little

METHOD

Roast pepper, Jeera, Uradh dhal, Red chillies, and thalipu vadam each separately in a little oil.
Allow it to cool
Grind the roasted ingredients with coconut and a little water into fine paste.
Cut the plantain into small cubes.
Add 1½ cup water and boil plantain with turmeric powder and salt.
When plantain is almost cooked, add the ground paste and cook for 5 more mins.
Add water if required.
Heat 2tsp oil, add ½ mustard seeds and ½ tsp uradh dal, curry leaves and add it to the kuzhambu.
If you have Thalipu vadam you can fry that in oil and add to instead of mustard seeds and uradh.
