KEERAI KOOTU (SPINACH DAL)



INGREDIENTS

Keerai – any type one bunch
Moong dal – ½ cup
Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
Oil – 1 tsp
Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
Uradh dal – ½ tsp
Cumin (jeera) – ½ tsp
Red chillies – 2
Asafoetida – ¼ tsp
Salt to taste

METHOD

Clean the greens (keerai) and wash three to four times
Cut into small pieces
Cook moong dal in cooker along with little turmeric powder.
Add ½ cup water and the keerai and turmeric powder and cook till it is cooked.
Now add the cooked dal, and salt.
Allow to cook for 2 mins.
Now heat 1 tsp oil and add mustard seeds, uradh dal, cumin, red chillies and asafoetida
Add to the kootu and serve.

SERVING TIP
It’s a good side dish for sambar, rasam and kara kuzhambu
